My great-great grandparents, Abraham and Hannah Hirsch left Warsaw, Poland due to religious persecution in the late 1800s. Upon arriving in the United States of America, most immigrants could not read or write and had little or no knowledge of proper spelling, and their names suffered at the hands of government officials. When Abraham and Hannah arrived to Syracuse, New York, their last name of Hirsch was immediately changed to Harris. Phillip Harris, my great-grandfather, was born in New York and his son, my grandfather Ted, was born on April 24, 1924, also in New York. The Hirsch Family Crest was found online. |
